Craig McKenzie

TRIATHLETE
Craig McKenzie started triathlon 12 years ago as an alternative to the team sports he played through out his teenage years, such as cricket and Australian Rules football. He described himself back then as an average age group athlete, who could run well, swim all right and ride ok. Through determination and consistency in training, Craig began to win his age group starting at State level then up to National level and then finish second in his first trip to an age group world championships in Montreal.

After starting to race pro the next year, he focused on short course racing over the ITU distances. In that time he won four national Duathlon Championships and went to two World Championships as a professional. After several years of short course racing at national and international triathlon level with mixed results, he entered his first half Ironman race in late 2004 and finished second in a time of 3:53. In his first Ironman in April 2005, he finished 4th and took a spot for Hawaii later that year. Since then he has raced in six more Ironman events, finishing in the top 30 in Hawaii and having two more 4th place finishes and a 2nd place finish at Ironman Louisville in 2007. With a personal best of 8:13 over the Ironman distance, he is looking to get his first win at Ironman this year and break into the top 10 at Hawaii.
